Core Mathematics builds on GCSE Mathematics, with a particular focus on problem solving skills. Students will consider and tackle Mathematics in meaningful contexts, including financial applications and statistical ideas. These can help with other A Level subjects, including Geography, Business studies, Economics and Psychology. The course is ideal for students who wish to continue to develop their mathematical skills but not study the A Level course. COURSE CONTENT AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS The Level 3 Core Mathematics qualification is considered equivalent to an AS level qualification and can be chosen as a fourth option to support your other subjects. Students are assessed by 2 written papers of equal length and weighting. Paper 1 develops ideas studied at GCSE across four areas; statistics, personal finance, using mathematical models and critical analysis of data. Paper 2 has three options looking in greater depth at statistics, graphical techniques or critical path and risk analysis. All papers use real world scenarios in teaching and assessment. Five grade 5s at GCSE to include at least a grade 4 in GCSE maths.
