What the college says

The Core Maths qualification is for students who have decided not to study A level mathematics but have A-Levels that require mathematical aptitude, or their degree course requires it. The aim of the qualification is to strengthen students' existing skills and focus on applying mathematics to solve problems relevant to everyday life. Core Maths builds on GCSE mathematics, with a sharper focus on problem-solving skills. Students will consider and tackle mathematics in meaningful contexts, including statistical ideas that can support work in other subjects.
