What the college says

This course is ideal if you want to gain core dog grooming assistant skills and prepare for progression to the Level 3 Diploma. You will work in dog grooming units to practise bathing drying coat preparation and essential trimming on dogs with different coat types. You will also learn underpinning theory and complete written and practical assessments to evidence your skills. It suits learners who want realistic experience but are not yet aiming to qualify as a professional groomer.

What you need to get on

To be 19 years old or above. It would be advantageous to be working within the dog grooming industry (as a volunteer or in paid employment) but this isnt essential. You will need to have a good level of literacy to enable you to complete the assignment work.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
