The Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media is a qualification which combines wider study of the media and its relevance and importance in the modern world with a hands on, vocational element. BTEC qualifications provide learning that brings together knowledge and understanding with practical and technical skills. The units covered in this qualification encourage the development in key transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are crucial in both higher education and the world of work. The creative and media sector in the UK is a major employer and contributor to the country?s global exports. According to the Department for Culture Media and Sport?s website, the sector is worth ?84.1 billion to the UK?s economy and it employs almost 6% of the total workforce. It is a growth area, in 2014 the sector grew by 8.9%, almost twice the growth of the economy as a whole. Government figures point to British films, music, video games, crafts and publishing as major contributors to economic growth.The aim of this course of study is to provide an introduction to study of creative digital media production as part of a programme of study that includes other BTEC or A level courses. However, for students who may wish to pursue a course of higher education and employment within the creative and media sector, the course is designed as a step towards these goals and offers the chance for progression towards them. A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 9 - 4, two of which must be English Language and Maths. The BTEC Creative Digital Media course welcomes students who are new to the subject.
