Biology has strong links with Chemistry and Geology and can open up many pathways into careers in health and clinical professions, such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, physiotherapy, pharmacy, optometry or nursing. Year 1 Topics Biological molecules Structure and function of DNA, RNA Cells and the immune system How organisms exchange substances within the environment Genes and how they code for the production of protein Year 2 Topics Photosynthesis and respiration Organisms in the environment Genetics and populations Control of gene expression Students will also participate in the field course to Ty’n-y-Felin. The course runs for two years with three exams at the end of the second year. The first two exams carry a weighting of 35% each and the final exam carries a weighting of 30%. All exams are 2 hours long. There will also be on-going teacher assessment of practical skills in order for students to pass the practical endorsement.

What you need to get on

5 GCSE grades A*- C/4+ including English language. Maths grade 6, plus GCSE Biology grade 6 OR science trilogy 6,6

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
