What the college says

The course gives an appreciation of the physiology of human digestive, gas exchange, transport and control systems. The impact on human health of non-communicable diseases relating to lifestyle is also considered. The extensive variety of life is studied in terms of the similarities and differences in biochemical basis, cellular organisation and adaptations in organisms. Also included is the examination of the influence of genetic and environmental factors on living things and the study of how variation in DNA results in genetic diversity. Topics will include: human biology and diseases, genetics, biochemistry, plant biology and ecology.

What you need to get on

5 GCSE�s at grade 5+ (or Merit+ in equivalents). If the 5 passes does not include English (language or literature) and mathematics of grade 5+, students must, in addition, achieve at least a grade 4 in English (language or literature) and mathematics. In addition, a grade 6 in biology or combined science must have been achieved in order to study biology. Students must also gain a grade 6 in both GCSE English and Mathematics.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
