Biology is a two-year A level course giving students the opportunity to extend their understanding of live science. It includes an element of practical work to help students develop their skills as a biologist. Biology is a popular A-level subject that opens the doors to many opportunities in a scientific and/or medical field. Biology is the study of living things and the world in which we live, giving insight into the complexities of the human body and how we function. This is an engaging subject with plenty of opportunities for practical work. Many students who study biology go on to study biology or a medically related field at university.

What you need to get on

An average GCSE point score of 5.5+. Grade 6 in biology, maths and English. Skills and attributes: The ability to learn independently; an attention to detail with good analytical skills.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
