Students will learn about the fundamental ways in which living things are organised. The course covers topics such as lifestyle factors affecting heart, circulation and cardiovascular disease; genes (genetic diseases, DNA, protein synthesis, and ethical issues relating to genetic screening); the genome cells (division, structure, stem cells), and biodiversity. We explore the implications of scientific discovery in stem cells, embryo research and cloning. If you're excited by discussing forensic pathology, the working of the brain and nervous system, viruses and the effects of climate change, this is the course for you! This course can lead to a degree course in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Psychology or Pharmacy, and employment in areas such as Pharmacy, Catering, Biotechnology and Land Management.
