What the college says
AS Geography is designed to stimulate student’s investigative and analytical skills. Whilst new units have been added to reflect the world today, you’ll see it’s retained much of the traditional topics students enjoy. AS is 100% exam and develops students fieldwork skills that will be assessed in the human geography paper. Students will study Physical geography – (50% of AS) including: Tectonic Processes and Hazards; Coastal Landscapes and Change. They will also study Human geography (50% of AS) including: Globalisation and Regenerating Places. The examination may include multiple-choice questions, short open, open response, calculations and resource-linked questions. The examination includes 12-mark and 16-mark extended writing questions. In optional Sections one question will assess fieldwork in relation to Coastal Landscapes and Regenerating Places. Each section ends with one 16-mark synoptic question that assesses students’ understanding of one of three synoptic themes and of one of the core geographical concepts.
