What the college says

English Literature is one of the most popular A-level subjects and with good reason, as students already possess a number of key skills and an interest in the subject from extensive study prior to Key Stage 5. English Literature at A-level extends and builds on that knowledge. It encourages you to develop an interest in and enjoyment of texts through reading widely, critically and independently. The range of texts and genres gives English specialists the freedom to teach in engaging ways. Teacher expertise ensures that you will find the texts challenging and inspiring.

What you need to get on

The minimum entry requirements for students are the best 8 GCSE grades, totalling 38 or higher. For example, two Grade 6s, two Grade 5s, and four Grade 4s. In addition, students also need to have secured a Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics and a Grade 6 in both GCSE English Language and English Literature.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
