What the college says

The A Level course is linked closely to what has been studied at GCSE. It allows students to perform, compose, listen and study in detail, many different styles and forms of music. We offer the WJEC course which is broken up into units, and is an extension of the main study areas encountered at GCSE. Some new skills are required and the depth of study is increased. In particular candidates need to be able to follow musical scores in several different styles.

What you need to get on

General entry requirements are: Five grade 5s at GCSE, including GCSE English Language or GCSE English literature and GCSE Maths. Subject specific entry requirements are: Grade 6 or above at GCSE Music or other proof of musical ability, for example Grade 5-8 on an instrument. It is a requirement that you are able to read both treble and bass clefs.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
