Media Studies A Level encourages students to explore and investigate the rapidly developing and changing role the media plays with our lives, and the role we play in shaping and developing the media. The study of a wide range of rich and stimulating media products is central to the specification, offering opportunities for detailed analysis of how the media communicate meanings in a variety of forms. Learners will work from the product outwards to debate key critical questions related to the social, cultural, political and economic role of the media. The course centres around four key concepts: Media language, media representation, media audiences, media institutions. Through these concepts, the course aims to offer the students a range of contemporary issues and debates surrounding media consumption, while introducing them to a robust theoretical framework. There is also a practical coursework element, and the students are expected to work individually to produce a sophisticated and engaging media product.
