What the college says

The purpose of this qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career in fitness coaching. You are provided with an understanding of anatomy, physiology and nutrition and how they relate to exercise and fitness. You are also provided with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment.

What you need to get on

You can progress from a Level 1 qualification in Sport, or you will require 4 GCSEs at grade 2/3 or D/E and above, including English and maths. If you do not have a grade 9-4 or A-C in English and/or maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your study programme. Some experience of gym based exercise is recommended.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
