What the college says

This course looks at how an athlete optimises performance. This includes how physiology imprints elite performance as well as studying psychological and Socio-cultural aspects of sport. Students also look at analysis of performance in competition, identifying weaknesses and suggesting corrective practice to bring about improvement. You must be a competent performer of one sport from the specification to undertake this subject.

What you need to get on

Grade 5 or above on the GCSE Physical Education or Grade 5 or above in GCSE Biology if not completed GCSE PE. The student must compete in a competitive sport as listed by the DFE.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
