Aimed at School Leavers. The A Level Music course comprises performing, composing and musical analysis. You are given many platforms to hone your performance skills throughout the year leading to a final performance in Year 13 which is assessed by an external examiner. As a composer you will learn a series of composition techniques and after writing a number of short pieces you will complete two/three compositions, one of which will be in response to a brief set by the exam board. As a musical analyst you will study set works from the Western Classical Tradition and the world of Musical Theatre. You will develop your skills of harmonic analysis, aural perception and critical thinking through listening-based and essay-based questions.

What you need to get on

To study an A Level programme you will need to achieve a minimum of three grade 5s and two grade 4s at GCSE including English Language and Maths at grade 5. Each individual subject carries its own entry criteria and some subjects do require higher grades than this.
