What the college says

The music A Level course allows you to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for further study of music at a university or college. If you have a real passion for music, studying at A Level will expand and develop your passion whilst widening your knowledge and understanding of composers, genres and eras. The course allows you to play to your strengths, adjusting the emphasis on composing or performing depending on your preference and ability. The rest of the course aims to develop listening skills for which you have a mixture of set works and unprepared material.

What you need to get on

Ideally you need either a Level 4 (or above) at GCSE or a BTEC Level 2 pass (or above), in Music. If you have not taken music at this level, it may still be possible to take the course if you play a musical instrument at Grade 5 or above

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
