What the college says

The study of History helps us understand and explain the past and is a fascinating subject. The research, evaluation and analytical skills acquired are desirable in Higher Education and employment. Students will also develop their understanding of major world events. You will study the tumultuous Tudor Age, exploring key changes under Henry VIII to Elizabeth I such as the development of the Church of England. The second unit is also a dramatic Golden Age for Spain as a Great Power under Philip II. The third unit comprises of a historical investigation exploring the epic campaigns of the Crusades 1071 1204.

What you need to get on

Five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above in appropriate subjects, with a Grade 6 in English Language or English Literature. Where a Grade 6 is not achieved in English; we will accept a Grade 6 or above in History instead. Students should be confident readers, able to write fluently and have good factual recall.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
