All of us have a basic understanding of the concepts that make up Economics. If there is a shortage of something people want, prices go up, and vice versa; our lives are shaped by supply and demand. Economics is about the issues that confront us all and tries to deal with the problem that there is never enough to go around. It will help you understand the world as we know it and you will gain a much better grasp of issues in the news. You will realise that the government plays a big part in influencing the provision of services, such as health, education or defence and will examine the decisions it makes on our behalf. You will also look at the impact of other decisions, such as Brexit, and make recommendations on the approach the government should take. Economics links well with a wide range of subjects including Mathematics, Geography, Business and Computing

What you need to get on

Grade 6 in English Language plus a Grade 6 in Mathematics. It is recommended that pupils have at least a grade 6 profile overall. No prior economics study is necessary.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
