The A Level Chemistry course enables you to study aspects of Chemistry often in the media and how they affect your lives. It is important you have the necessary knowledge and understanding to explain many aspects of contemporary Chemistry, including climate change, green chemistry, pharmaceuticals and research chemistry. The course givesyou a good understanding of the basic principles of the subject and introduces modern techniques that are used in industry. For those not yet committed to a specific career path, Chemistry, in combination with Mathematics, Physics, Geography or Biology, keeps open a very wide set of options. Chemistry is asked for in University applications for a very wide range of subjects. Even for students not using Chemistry for their degree course, obtaining a Chemistry A Level is well respected by employers. The course involves a lot of practical work closely integrated with theory.

What you need to get on

GCSE Grade 7 in Chemistry or a high Grade 6 within 5 UMS of a Grade 7 or GCSE 7/7 in Science and Additional Science AND GCSE Grade 6 in Mathematics

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
