The course covers nearly 400 years of British and European History at a time of real change. It allows students to study change, continuity, cause and consequence in this period. The Germany unit will enable you to study people, politics, the economy, society and ideology. It will enable you to consider the following questions: How was Germany governed and how didpolitical authority change and develop? How effective was opposition? How and with what results did the economy develop and change? What was the extent of social and cultural change? How important were ideas and ideology? How important was the role of key individuals and groups and how were they affected by developments? The British unit enables students to study a transformative period of British history, during which democratically elected government faced a series of challenges, both internally and externally, and British society underwent fundamental change. It develops concepts such as reform and retrenchment, patriotism and pacifism, social status and cultural values. It also encourages students to reflect on the process of economic and social change and the impact of that change for both governments and the people. The Tudor coursework will investigate key themes such as government, religion, foreign policy, society and the economy across the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward, Mary & Elizabeth I.
