2 year linear programme of study Critical use of evidence in assessing historical problems and issues  To develop an understanding of key issues over a period of time using the key concepts of continuity and change.  To assess different historical interpretations to analyse and evaluate ways in which the past has been interpreted, in debates between historians.  To broaden students’ knowledge and understanding of different periods and countries.  To develop the ability to communicate ideas and arguments clearly and accurately. The A Level course will consist of two examined components, both worth 40%, and one piece of coursework worth 20%. Unit 1 is a breadth study. Students will study Britain 1485 - 1603. Topics include the consolidation of the Tudor Dynasty 1485 - 1547 and England: Turmoil and Triumph 1547 - 1603. Unit 2 is a depth study. Students will study, Russia 1917 - 1953. Topics include The Russian Revolution and the Rise of Stalin 1917 - 1929 and Stalin’s rule 1929 - 1953 Unit 3 is an historical investigation. Students will study 100 years of 19th Century French history and complete an investigation on a specific topic. The investigation will be approximately 3000 - 3500 words.

Average GCSE grade 4.5. Grade 4 in English Language, Grade 4 in English Literature and Grade 4 in Mathematics. Minimum Grade 5 in History (English Language 5 if not studied)
