Do you have an interest in the past? Do you want to gain an understanding and sound knowledge of selected periods or themes, awareness of historical concepts? Studying A Level History will help you to appreciate the nature and diversity of historical sources and methods, grasp a variety of approaches to aspects and periods of history, to think independently and make informed judgements of issues and to cultivate empathy with people living in diverse place and at different times.

What you need to get on

A minimum of three grade 6s and five grade 5s at GCSE including a grade 6 in GCSE English Language or English Literature. If GCSE History was studied you must have achieved at least a grade 6.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
