History A Level encourages you to understand and think intellectually about aspects of modern history. It involves much more than just learning factual information. There is a lot to learn and you will immediately notice how much detail a topic is covered than at GCSE. However, what students find most rewarding in History is the attempt to understand, evaluate and analyse the past. Questions are designed to make you think critically about the material and to formulate your own assessments. You will, for example, learn to make judgments about the policies of individual leaders and nations, or to analyse the causes of a particular event and evaluate the importance of different factors.

What you need to get on

5 GSCEs at grade 9-5, including English at grade '6' or above and History GCSE at grade '6' or above.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
