What the college says
This new Geography syllabus is engaging and relevant to today’s students – a qualification that enables you to engage critically with real world issues and places. Edexcel A level Geography consists of three externally examined papers and one coursework component. UNIT 1: Assessed by examination (Assessed at AS and A level) • Tectonic Processes and Hazards • Landscape Systems, Processes and Change (including a minimum of 1 days fieldtrip) UNIT 2: Assessed by examination (Assessed at AS and A level) • Globalisation • Shaping Places (including a minimum of 1 days fieldtrip) UNIT 3: Assessed by examination (Assessed at A level) • The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity • The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security • Climate Change Futures This is a synoptic unit, examining the inter-linkages different geographical themes and ideas. The synoptic themes incorporate specialist geographical concepts, namely: causality, systems, feedback, inequality, identity, globalisation, interdependence, mitigation and adaption, sustainability, risk, resilience and thresholds. UNIT 4: Assessed internally (Assessed at A Level) • Superpowers • Global Development and Connections This is a coursework and fieldwork unit, and students are expected to produce a 3000-4000 word report, based on a geographical investigation. Progression routes and careers: This specification offers an issues-based approach to studying geography, enabling students to explore and evaluate contemporary geographical questions and issues
