What the college says
The purpose of the course is to provide candidates with a firm grounding in the tools of economic analysis with a particular emphasis on using those tools and techniquest for problem solving. The specification is intended to provide the basis for a broad understanding of economics and, secondly to provide a basis for further study. Students will be expected to acquire competence in quantitive skills that are relevant to the subject content and be familar with the various types of statistical and other data which are commonly used by ecomomists. Students should explore the disagreements that exist between ecomomists and current economic controversies. Students will also be encouraged to develop a critical approach to economic models and methods of enquiry. The specification is split into two main sections introducing microecomomics and macroecomics principles. Students will be assessed through three examination papers. Course availability is dependant on a minimum number of students applying.
What you need to get on
For applicants who wish to study 3 A levels and an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) they will require an Attainment 8 Score of 60pts to include at least a Grade 5 in Mathematics and English Language. A minimum of a Grade 6 is required in the subject to be studied at A level. For applicants who wish to study 4 A levels they will require an Attainment 8 Score of 68pts to include at least a Grade 5 in Mathematics and English Language. A minimum of a Grade 6 is required in the subject to be studied at A level.
