A-Level Further Maths
at Idsall School, Shifnal · school or sixth form
What the college says
The content is separated into three areas: Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics with all elements being assessed through a written examination. All pupils must study all three topic areas. Further Maths cannot be studied in its own right and must be taken in conjunction with the single A-Level Maths course. (Resulting in 2 maths qualifications)
What you need to get on
Apart from minimum entry requirements for the Sixth Form, we would encourage students to consider A-Level maths if they have a grade 7 or better at GCSE. We will accept a grade 6 in some circumstances. This is because a lot of the harder grade 7-9 algebraic topics are fundamental building blocks for students to succeed at A-Level maths. A grade 5 is also required in English Language.
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
What this level means
The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
Is it open to 16 to 18 year olds?
Approved for 16 to 18 study on the government's Section 96 list.
