Aimed at School Leavers. You will develop the four key skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking that you started at GCSE as well as translation. You will also improve your ability to communicate effectively both in speaking and writing by studying, researching and discussing a range of exciting topics. These topics are centred around French-speaking societies and their evolution over time in terms of social, cultural and historical events. You will gain a range of transferable skills including communication, critical thinking, research skills and creativity.In first year of A Level French you will learn a range of social issues and trends, aspects of the political and artistic culture of the countries where the language is spoken as well as the study of a literary text or a film. In the second year of A level French you will study a further two major topics, the multicultural society and recent historical events, plus a literary text and a film.Assessment is three exams: 1. Listening, reading and translation (40percent ), written response, grammar and translation (30percent ) and speaking exam (30percent ).

What you need to get on

To study an A Level programme you will need to achieve a minimum of three grade 5s and two grade 4s at GCSE including English Language and Maths at grade 5. Each individual subject carries its own entry criteria and some subjects do require higher grades than this.
