Have you always wanted to learn another language? Are you interested in the French culture and lifestyle? In this course, you will develop your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills and broaden your knowledge of France and other French speaking countries. During this course, you will learn vocabulary based on a variety of topic areas as well as grammar rules, which will enable you to make sense of the language and to use the language accurately. You will develop all four language skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing through a wide range of materials, both inside and outside the classroom. Your lessons will be conducted in specialist language rooms. You will use a wide range of materials and have access to our highly supportive Languages Centre for help with any aspect of your French studies. Once a week, you will have a conversation session with our French language assistant to help you improve your confidence in speaking. You will be able to develop your knowledge of French speaking countries and their culture by studying various topics as part of your course, as well as a French language film and novel. Previous students also took part in the Mini-Assistant Scheme, which involved a ten-day stay in Brittany with a five-day work experience placement in a primary school.

What you need to get on

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including a minimum of grade 6 in French and grade 6 or above in English Language or English Literature. Successful A Level students would normally have achieved high grades in a number of relevant GCSE subjects. An interest in French language, grammar and culture is also essential.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
