This course is for 16-19 year olds who enjoy reading and developing their own writing skills, who enjoy stories and poetry, and who wish to gain an insight into how texts are created. Students should be keen to explore the literature of the present and the past. It is a subject that can be studied alongside most humanities choices but is especially strong in combination with Film Studies.

What you need to get on

For 3 A Level subjects you require 6 GCSEs grades 9-4 in academic subjects, taken in one sitting. In addition, there are subject specific entry criteria which relate to the specific demands of the subject. To study English Literature at A Level prospective students will need to achieve a grade 5 in English Language GCSE. Any student who achieves a grade 4 may opt to take an internally assessed English test and if successful be admitted to the course.
