English Literature is about exploring the world through the lens of literary writers within prose, poetry, and drama. English Literature aims to teach students to think critically about works of literature and explore the contexts in which they are written. Successful English Literature students will enjoy reading, feel comfortable sharing their own ideas in class and will be happy to write extended pieces of work. There are often no ‘correct’ responses to issues or questions raised in English Literature, so you need to be openminded and willing to hear and discuss the opinions of others.

5 GCSEs or equivalent at 5+, including 4+ in Maths and 6+ in English Literature

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
