From tragedy, comedy and crime to elements of political and social protest writing, English Literature has a breadth of genres available to study. You will learn about how writers use language to challenge the political systems and government, explore the sexism within texts and discover whether texts are inherently racist. Consequently, you will acquire skills such as: analysis, evaluation, critical thinking, research and debate.

What you need to get on

You need a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above including Mathematics and you MUST have a grade 6 or higher in English Language or Literature at GCSE. If you have alternative qualifications which are equivalent to GCSEs, your application will be considered on an individual basis on teacher recommendation. Excellent behaviour and attendance records are also needed.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
