A Level Classical Civilisation
at Phoenix Academy, London · school or sixth form
What the college says
Classical Civilisation provides a broad, coherent and rewarding study of the literature, thought and art of ancient Greece and Rome. These civilisations provide the basis for much of modern life, yet can also be startlingly different. A key challenge of the course is navigating these differences, learning about a world at once familiar and startlingly alien. You will study a wide range of socio-political themes, from the cultural values of Homeric Greece to the delights and tragedies of Greek Theatre to the beliefs and ideas of Roman poets—a scope of the most fascinating periodsand texts that survive.
