What the college says

Classical Civilisation is the study of any and all the fascinating aspects of those cultures which predate the so-called Dark Ages of early Medieval Europe. In particular, it focuses on the vibrant political, social, military, philosophical, artistic and literary achievements of the Greek and Roman civilisations between approximately 1000BC and 400AD. Through this study, students develop the critical and evaluative skills (much in demand by leading universities) that will allow them to consider complex societal issues within the fuller sweep of their historical significance. The modules chosen will concentrate specifically on the period up to the formation of the Roman Empire in the late 1st century BC.
