What the college says

Core Mathematics is a new Level 3 course for students who achieve a grade 4 or above pass at GCSE. The qualification is designed to prepare students for the mathematical demands of work, study and life. The course has been developed with employers, universities and professional bodies as valuable preparation for higher education and employment. Core Mathematics has been designed to maintain and develop real-life maths skills. What students study is not purely theoretical or abstract, it can be applied on a day-to-day basis and will include a financial maths element. It will also help with other A Level subjects – in particular Science, Geography, Business Studies and Economics. Most students who study Mathematics after GCSE improve their career choices and increase their earning potential. The qualification is linear so students sit examinations at the end of the course. There are two written examinations of 1 hour 30 minutes. There are no optional questions, a formulae sheet is available and the use of scientific or graphics calculator is allowed. Resources needed Scientific calculator £6 Core Mathematics is an excellent option for those wanting an edge in their UCAS applications over students who have only studied non-mathematical subjects. It is also an excellent addition to a CV for any students considering an Apprentice based route, for example in Accounting or Law.
