WJEC Level 3 Applied Certificate in Criminology is a qualification with elements of psychology, law and sociology that complements studies in humanities. Its purpose is to provide you with an introduction to criminal justice and to give a context for humanities learning. The course consists of two units. The first mandatory unit, Changing Awareness of Crime, will enable you to demonstrate understanding of different types of crime, influences on perceptions of crime and why some crimes are unreported. The second mandatory unit, Criminological Theories, will allow you to gain an understanding of why people commit crime, drawing on what you have learned in Unit 1. Each unit has an applied purpose, which acts as a focus for the learning in the unit. The applied nature of the course requires learning to be related to authentic case studies. It also requires you to consider how the way you use and apply what you have learned impacts on yourself, other individuals, employers, society and the environment.
