This two-year vocational course is suitable for students with a general interest in the work of the Protective Services and those who are aiming to pursue a career in any of the uniformed protective service organisations including the Emergency Services and Armed Forces. The course requires participation in a variety of activities including a residential trip desk based scenarios and other team building tasks. You will also study a wide range of topics to better understand the shifting roles and responsibilities of a diverse range of protective service organisations. You will develop many work-related skills including leadership teamwork problem-solving communication planning decision-making presentation skills and report writing. DIPLOMA (units are subject to change in accordance with national guidelines) Unit 2 - Behaviour and Discipline in the Uniformed Protective Services External assessed - 2 hour exam Unit 13 - Introduction to Criminology Internal assessment Unit 5 - Teamwork Leadership and Communication in the Uniformed Protective Services Internal assessment Unit 15 - Police Powers and the Law Internal assessment Unit 1 - Citizenship and Diversity Externally set by Pearson (internal assessment) Unit 4 - Physical Preparation Health and Wellbeing Internal assessment Unit 6 - Government and the Protective Services External assessed - 1.5 hour exam

What you need to get on

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above or the equivalent from four subject areas including a GCSE in English Language or English Literature. A GCSE in a humanities based subject is preferred. Students already studying the Level 2 BTEC Certificate/Extended Certificate in Public Services at St Brendan?s will be made a conditional offer subject to performance on the course as well as achieving at least an overall Merit.
