If you love using original ideas to create something, then working in art and design will be a fun and rewarding experience that enables you to demonstrate your artistic flair. This practical course has been developed in consultation with employers in the design sector of the creative industries to ensure you learn the skills and behaviours that will give you the best opportunity to be successful in the art and design field. You will develop a professional and diverse range of skills within art and design - to strengthen your creativity culminating in the production of a professional portfolio enabling progression onto a Level 3 course, an apprenticeship or employment. You will need to be a creative person with a keen interest in art and design and have commitment and determination to succeed. This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop a range of skills and techniques essential for working in the art and design sector.

What you need to get on

You will need 4 GCSEs (or vocational equivalents) at Grade 2 or higher, including English or Maths. We will request a school or college report to demonstrate your good attendance and engagement. Progressing students require good attendance & engagement within English and Maths lessons.

How you are assessed

One subject in depth, assessed largely through coursework and projects.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
