What the college says
This subject will appeal to creative, self motivated students who have a passion for experimenting and creating work in three dimensions in a range of materials including wood, metal, card and plastics. Students are encouraged to experiment and problem solve to create decorative and functional products. Many of the students interested in A Level Three Dimensional Design also look at a range of other subjects to compliment it, for example Photography, Art and Design, Production arts, Physics and Mathematics. You will develop your existing knowledge of design and making to create imaginative and innovative products and outcomes. You will be encouraged to experiment with new materials and techniques including computer aided design and manufacture as well as more traditional workshop techniques.
What you need to get on
GCSE Design and Technology or GCSE Art and Design grade 6 or higher. Applicants will be invited to attend an additional interview with portfolio - specific details for this will be sent on receipt of application.
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
