What you need to get on

A level 1 qualification in a relevant subject area, passed with merit or distinction grade - plus maths and English grade D or above, or functional skills level 1 maths and English

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
