The Level 3 Music course is a two-year course starting with a Subsidiary Diploma in year one, converting to a full Extended Diploma in year 2. The course is designed for students that wish to pursue a career in the music industry, music performance or music education, as well as music technology and live sound. We at Walsall Studio School want to enable students to open doors to higher education as well as careers within the industry. During the course, you will benefit from a broad range of work based opportunities through our collaborative network, and we guarantee, high quality careers advice to support your progression into higher education or a suitable apprenticeship/ work environment. The course is designed to allow students to apply their learning through 2 main routes; music performance and music technology, both featuring a range of practical assessments working with professionals in the industry and fulfilling briefs to match real life scenarios. The Level 3 Music course has a combination of externally and internally marked units, including; the study of music performance, listening, composing, and an in depth analysis of the music industry, as well as the development of popular music and music technology. Students will also have the opportunities to use and become skilful in using various types of equipment, from working with PA systems and music software to running live sound at numerous events within school and beyond. What you need to get on

Typically, 7+ x ‘C’ grade GCSE or equivalent (new grades 4/5 after 2017) - with one being in English and one in the subject specialism. A minimum of 4 x C’s are required. If maths and/or English are not included in the 4 GCSEs, then re-takes will automatically be included in the timetable.
