What the college says
This practical course is about the directional felling of trees using a chainsaw. The felling technique will be appropriate to tree size, weight, condition and species, as well as taking into account guide bar size and weather conditions. This covers both coniferous and broadleaved trees, trees that are upright, trees that are weighted towards and that are weighted against a given felling direction. After successful completion you will be able to safely fell and process small trees up to 380mm in diameter.
What you need to get on
You will need to be at least 18 years of age and should hold a certificate of competence in the following units: - Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Crosscutting Verification of these units must be produced prior to the start of the course.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
