What the college says

Religious Studies is a fascinating and intellectually stimulating course that encourages lively debate on religious, philosophical and ethical issues. Both AS and A Level courses are designed to offer an academic approach to the study of religion and be accessible to students of any religious persuasion or none. The courses demand and develop the skills of sustaining a critical line of argument and justifying a point of view. These skills will complement many other courses that you may be considering both for AS and A Level and ultimately, undergraduate courses that require conceptual thought. The Course There are two components: Component 1: Philosophy of Religion and Ethics. The philosophy section includes the classical arguments for the existence of God, the problem of evil and religious experiences. The ethics paper includes an examination of contemporary issues such as abortion, euthanasia and capital punishment. Component 2: A study of Buddhism which includes an examination of the Buddha's life and teachings and also looks at contemporary practice including the modern usage of Buddhist meditation as a form of therapy.
