Ethics Religious Studies looks at “ultimate questions” such as the nature of existence. This is done by a philosophical approach, developing skills in assessing the validity and strengths of arguments and approaches. These skills are also applied to understanding a world religion, its history and its beliefs. Debate and discussion are an important element of the course. In this course you will study how both religious and non-religious people make moral decisions including absolute and relative approaches. You will explore ethical theories such as Natural Law, Situation Ethics, Kantian Ethics and Utilitarianism. You will also enjoy learning about the ethics of a religion you choose, its main ethical principles, the ways in which religion and morality may be linked. You will explore the concepts of the “Sanctity of Life”, “Quality of Life” and “Just War”. These theories and principles are applied in this course to medical ethics e.g. abortion, euthanasia, genetic engineering, as well as issues of war and peace. Anyone with a questioning mind and an interest in the world around them would enjoy this course. What you need to get on

Minimum entry requirements for all A Level courses are minimum of 8 GCSE subjects, with an average grade of 6 (legacy grade B) or above; including at least a grade 6 or above in GCSE English Language (or Literature) and GCSE mathematics and a grade 6 or above in GCSE Science. In addition, to study this subject you must have a grade 6 or above in English Language.
