A Level Psychology is a consistently popular and successful subject at The Streetly Academy. The A Level course will not only deepen your understanding of Psychological theories and studies but will also develop your skills of analysis. The AQA A Level course includes five exam units, which covers Social Influence, Memory, Attachments, Psychopathology, Approaches in Psychology, Bio-psychology and Research Methods. In Year 12 we investigate how attachments impact on relationships, how memories develop and the accuracy of eyewitness testimony. In a thought provoking abnormality unit we explore the limits of the definitions of abnormality. In Year 13 we explore how children learn through 'Cognition and development' and we consider what factors lead to criminality in the topic of 'Forensic Psychology' A third unit explores explanations and treatments of schizophrenia.You will develop knowledge and understanding of psychological concepts, theories, research studies, research methods and ethical issues in relation to the specified topics.

What you need to get on

Total point score 33 or higher from best 7 GCSEs including English Language and Mathematics graded 5 or higher, and grade 5 or higher in science

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
