This course has been designed to develop the student’s capability to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. It focuses on: Materials and components, their selection and uses in products/systems. Industrial and commercial practices. Wider issues affecting design decisions.

What you need to get on

GCSE grade 6 or above in Design & Technology (either product design or resistant materials) or Art. OR a Level 2 qualification at Distinction, A grade or equivalent, in Design & Technology, Art or Engineering related discipline. Where the qualifications above have not been studied, you must be able to prove your ability is equivalent to GCSE grade 6, by completing a 2-4 page portfolio showing your design skills and creativity. The portfolio can include designs for multiple products.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
