The Level 2 Pre-Access Science course prepares students for progression to higher-level study by introducing key scientific topics and essential academic skills. Students explore diet and nutrition, learning about nutrients, balanced diets and their impact on health. They also study chemical changes and the structure of matter, develop mathematical skills through algebra and examine environmental issues and the impact of human activity on the planet. Alongside subject knowledge, learners build important study skills, including effective learning strategies, independent study and referencing for academic work.

No prior knowledge is required. The course is open to all with an interest in science.

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
