Should the voting system be changed? What influence does ideology have on day-to-day life? These are some of the questions we grapple with in AS and A Level Government and Politics. If you have an interest in current affairs, then this is the course for you! The Course The AS course helps us to understand how our British democratic, representative political system works by looking at election systems, voting behaviour, political parties, pressure groups and parliament. A Level provides an opportunity to study different ideologies, such as Socialism and Conservatism, the ways in which they affect British politics in practise and the also the potential to look at US politics, and how it differs from our system. This course will appeal to you if you enjoy being actively involved in the lesson, expressing your opinion in discussion, listening to a range of viewpoints and being aware of current affairs on a daily basis. Additional Opportunities In Year 12 there is an annual visit to London to visit the Houses of Parliament and the UK Supreme Court, as well as opportunities to question and debate with politicians at a local Democracy Forum.

What you need to get on

Our minimum entry requirements for September 2026 are six GCSEs at grade 6 or above, including English Language and Mathematics. Applicants must achieve Grade 7 or above in each of the subjects (or related subjects) that they wish to study at A Level.
