If you want to learn how the universe works, then this is the subject for you. Physics is the study of the fundamental laws that govern the Universe; from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest galaxies and everything in between and because Physics is a mathematical subject so you should enjoy calculation, problem solving and have the ability to think logically. You will develop your practical skills as you complete a wide variety of experiments, illustrating and exploring topics such as the study of mechanics, heat, waves, electricity and magnetism which underpin today’s technology and the way we live. We can also travel forwards in time to consider how the study of nuclear and particle physics will underpin the way we will live in the future. If you are interested in a career in engineering Physics and Mathematics are essential subjects for higher study.

What you need to get on

A minimum of 5 passes (grade 4 or above) at GCSE, including in both English and Maths (not including Level 2 vocational qualifications). Plus two grade 5s in GCSE Science

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
