Physics is an interesting and challenging A Level subject which will enable you to understand how the principles of physics are used in current technology. For example, understanding why the nucleus sticks together, how we use antimatter in hospitals and how we use our knowledge of physics to diagnose and treat cancer patients. Theory of physics ranges from the large scale universe and Big Bang to the tiny world of quarks and quantum physics. All are covered in the course. The Course and Assessment Throughout Year 12, students will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the foundations of physics principles and to gain an increased depth of knowledge on the key ideas. They will learn a variety of topics, including: Measurements and their errors; Particles and Radiation; Waves; Mechanics and Materials, and Electricity. In Year 13 students will extend on the solid foundations formed in year 12 and utilise their independent, group work and problem solving skills to make progress in both familiar and novel topics, such as fields and further mechanics, nuclear and molecular physics and radioactivity as well as the option unit of Medical Physics. You will be taught in a purposeful yet relaxed atmosphere in lessons which take place in a well-resourced laboratory. Applicants must achieve Grade 7 or above in each of the subjects (or related subjects) that they wish to study at A Level.
