This programme is the ideal broad introduction if you have a keen interest in beginning a career in engineering and will build up your basic engineering skills. You will also develop your technical knowledge. Completing this programme will allow you to discover which aspect of engineering is best suited to your skillset. This qualification has specifically been designed to offer progression onto the next level of study. The programme involves mostly practical learning around hand fitting, machining, fabrication, welding and electronics in engineering. You will follow a curriculum designed to give you the skills and knowledge to successfully progress onto a level 2 course or entry level employment within a range of engineering settings. You will build your skills around processes such as hand fitting, turning and welding until you are proficient in the process and can work on your own safely and to a good standard. What you need to get on
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 2/F or above, including English or maths.
How you are assessed
Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.
